I’ve been isolating at my remote cabin on the edge of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Nobody come knocking.

I came in to reprovision. Headed back out tomorrow or the next day. Spent the past week out there. Very peaceful.

We made a snap decision to leave our Florida house on March 19th and head back to Vermont a month early. Quite a trip, no places to eat, very few rest stops open and hard to get a motel. We had the car packed with snack food and water. Good thing. We got to Vt 21 March. Yes we are under stay at home orders here. Can only go out for food or medications, etc.

I have been locked away at my home for more than a week now, and the order was extended to stay home until May 4th.  Working from home definitely makes for a really tough commute.

We here in Illinois have been under “shelter at home” orders since 21 March.  Supposedly to be out only for exercise (maintaining social distancing), medications, food, or fuel.  Saturday it was reported that a young man was admitted to hospital with “community acquired” COVID-19.  Seems he attended a rural party of young folks (they seem to think they are immune) numbering between 85 and 100 on 21 March.  Then on 26 Mar another party in a home with about 25 in attendance.  Health Dept trying to determine names but the newspaper said, if you attended either party, self quarantine.  Up until now we have not had police stopping folks on the road to see why they are out of their house, but that may change with such behaviors.  I am trying to get farm work done as well as working in the yard.  House work really needs to be done, too, but easier to put off.  I have read stories in the paper of police ticketing folks in the cities if they are out and not for one of the exceptions.  How they determine that?  No idea.  I sincerely hope it doesn’t reach the point that state or local police begin to have to enforce the restrictions, and folks can use common sense (yeah, gets kind of scarce at times).  TimCry

Youth seem to think it’s a big joke. And if you get the virus it’s like getting a cold.

At the same time cops in many big cities have been told to look the other way when they see dope deals going down, to avoid any risks involved in arresting & booking them.  And prisons are releasing what they call “low threat” inmates.  (Why were they locked up if they were “low threat”.)  A State Trooper I know well told me last week they’d all been told to do the same thing with minor traffic infractions–which I loved to hear.  But folks are harassed for driving their cars?  And then maybe have to go before a judge in a crowded courtroom?  Very sensible.

We’ve (Los Angeles) been on stay at home orders since March 20th and “suggested” orders a week before that. I’ve been working at home now more than three and a half weeks. Went to get groceries a week and a half ago and everyone is being cool. 50 people in the grocery at a time. 6ft at checkout, etc. There was plenty on the shelves except eggs and flour (didn’t need paper products so I didn’t look). I’m a little bit of a “prepper” anyway so generally have a stocked freezer and pantry and MRE’s stored away for the long-haul if necessary (earthquake country).

In our area at least (Westchester, middle-class suburb just north of the airport), reports of non-arrests are largely exaggerated, but reported. Our local CLEO sent a message to the community indicating they are still working. A few punks tried to loot the Goodwill up the street and were quickly apprehended. Otherwise, it’s eerily quiet around here.

Our governor(Dewine))canceled pretty much everything before st Patrick’s day- which at first was anything with people over 100 people. And today they just added to limit the amount of people in stores. It’s afforded me to get halfway through the 1895 book, which is a must read), also started Winchester, the way it really was…..and I must say the yard is looking much better too

sorry had to  edit to spell governors name correctly

On March 23rd the governor of Louisiana implemented the Stay at Home Order at 5p.m. That morning my office had a meeting to discuss what the Governor’s Order meant for our business. Us being an Architecture Firm we found out relatively quickly from LA State Facility Planning & Control that our firm being in the “construction industry” is considered an essential business and could remain open. Also due to the fact that we have several State Construction Projects underway, that no delay would be wanted and for all the state projects to proceed.

At that morning meeting the President of the company mentioned that he was dealing with a “Hay Fever” over the weekend, but wasn’t worried because his temperature never got to 100. We went about the work week as usual. I spent most of Monday dealing with all our clients that had relayed their various reasons for shutting down until the April 13 closure (which is now April 30). Monday night which happened to be my wife’s and I seven year wedding anniversary, I noticed a slight tickle in my throat. Tuesday – Friday I thought I was dealing with “Seasonal Allergies”, but also on Wednesday thought it was odd my back started to hurt. I thought I threw my back out again, which for me on occasion happens, I’ve had two back surgeries. Also on Wednesday my wife also thought her allergies were acting up, which is not usual for her, as she is all the time taking Claritin. By that weekend I had severe back pain, and my nose was congested. I also had a slight cough.  On Monday the 30th I went and got tested at the drive thru testing center. They acted like they didn’t want to test me, but I was persisted and they did. The highest my temp had gotten was 99.8F. On Monday we found out the President’s wife / the company accountant tested positive for Covid-19. On Tuesday the 31st my Wife got a fever of 102.1F, started having chest pains, and cough. She went and got tested Wed. the 1st.  They told me results would be in 3-5 days. I got my results Friday the 3rd. I was positive for Covid-19. By which I was mostly better and really just tired / wore down.

My wife on the other hand was much worse, she ran a fever as high as 102.9F for 8 days straight, had a severe cough, chest pains. On Tue. the 7th they notified her she was positive. Her fever finally broke on the 8th, and so far she’s been fever free. She still has a rough cough and body aches. But I’m praying we are past the worst of it.

I wouldn’t wish this Virus on anyone. I’m 36 and my wife is 35, and the doctor told my wife she had “Mild Symptoms”. I guess I had “Lite Symptoms”, which mine fealt about 10x worse than when I had the flu a few years ago.

So for our 7th year wedding anniversary I brought home Covid-19 to me and my wife. All because my boss thought he had “HAY FEVER”, which now half our office has the virus. Luckily my two kids have been fine, and haven’t missed a beat. Going 90 to nothing the entire time.

Also a side note for everyone, my mother is director of the G.I. lab at one of our local hospital systems. She has a 40+ years in the medical field. She’s never seen anything like this virus. It is historic and unprecedented on how they are having to handle it.

So to all of you older members out there, please stay home and stay safe. This Virus is NO JOKE

Sincerely,

Brady Henderson

Brady

Glad to hear you and your bride are recovering now. Sounds like a scary experience. Honestly, it makes it much more real to hear your story. I live in a state with very low population, but its here too. Luckily, I’ve been able to work from home for a month now.

Brady, Glad to hear the two of you appear to be on the mend.  I quarantined my wife with her mother and brother in Rosepine.  I tend to the farm SE of DeRidder and alternate telework and on-site work days at Ft. Polk. I run all the errands and drop off what they need when they need it- I’m not a germ-a-phobe but can say my hands are processing more alcohol than my liver at this point.  Be Well!

I went to my favorite gun store this morning.  I usually go twice a week but haven’t been there for about a month.  They were never shut down but they made a sign for the door that says Closed Deliveries Only.  Only 1 person showed up while I was there.  On Saturday mornings there usually is quite a few customers and a group a guys that just hang out. Our state has a 10 day wait.  Then you have 30 days to pick it up or you have to pay and start over.  I found out that the State has put a temporary stop on the 30 day part if you started the process before the lock downs.  I usually don’t buy guns that need to be registered but I still try to keep up on the latest foolishness.

Brady, and any others, glad you and your spouse are recovering!  Appreciate your words to the wise.  So far seems the only known cases here in my county are  young folks.  One reported to be in his 20’s or 30’s, the other in his 30’s.  Obviously I don’t know nor will I know the circumstances how they caught it, unlike you, but perhaps had they known and believed, they may have avoided the COVID-19.  Thank you for sharing your story.  Tim
