I need some help from someone who is knowledgeable on Winchester and Western 22 and shotshell boxes. Have the opportunity to purchase a couple of different boxes but I’m unsure as to price and rarity
Winchester 22 Long box looks like the 1906 issue lesmoke LR-22 box sealed. Looks like the one on page 119 of Richard Rains book.
Western Field two piece waterproof 20 ga 2 1/2 inch No. 7 shot with the quail in the grass on cover. Box is sealed and appears to be in almost mint condition
Winchester Ranger with dog on point in 20ga 2 1/2 inch No. 10 shot. Box is very good condition and full.
I will see about getting some photos later in the week. Also curious on the history of the availability on the No.10 shot because this is the first one I have seen.
Thanks
Your best bet is to search the internet for sites that sell obsolete, vintage, antique, or collectable ammo.
Try this for a start. https://forum.cartridgecollectors.org/t/places-to-purchase-collectible-ammo/15961
Also just enter what you are trying to find and see where it may pop up.
The ranger box is early 1900’s. If a box says it is something to say it is not black powder (like smokeless, staiynless) it is in the transitional period where both could be bought. Any box that has an animal or gun is a picture box and that brings a premium.
Look at Sold USA, McKune’s Sporting Collectables, Pete DeCoux, Ray Giles and Wards Auction. There are a couple more places that have been around for a long time but I can’t remember who.

I’ll take all the FWIW I can get. At 25 Ive only recently started to get into collecting cartridge boxes, but I’ve been collecting Winchesters for a couple of years. These are being offered to me privately by a collector, I have bought other 22 boxes from him but they were late 40s thrugh the 60’s.
Would starting at be for each or just for the Western Box?

If you are asking what the starting price for these boxes are I can’t say for sure. I don’t collect shotgun boxes, but have a couple of earlier ones. I have a few green black powder boxes in short, long and WRF. I am not sure when Winchester started making LR ammo. The 1890/90 started using the LR around 1919. If you look at the bottom right corner there is a date. First number is the month followed by the year. Boxes with the red W are from the early 1900’s.
My guess is that the 22 box could be $100. The shotgun boxes are probably more.
