Damn! I must be getting serious about this hobby or my brain is getting addled. For the first time in my life I’ll be missing Irish weekend to do something other than Guinness and Irish whiskey. GO TO A GUN SHOW!!! I’ll probably feel better Monday then I would have. I’m hopeful that Baltimore will be worth the EXTREME sacrifice.
To all my Irish brothers: Here’s to cheating, stealing, fighting and drinking.
If you cheat, cheat death. If you steal, steal a woman’s heart. If you fight, fight for a brother and if you drink, drink with me. Slainte!!
The problem with some people is that when they aren’t drunk, they’re sober.

Personally my preference is to keep my whiskey (usually Red Breast) and stout in two glasses because as Mark Twain observed: Give an Irishman lager for a month and he’s a dead man. An Irishman’s stomach is lined with copper, and the beer corrodes it but the whiskey polishes the copper and is the saving of him.
My wife checked out the goings on in Baltimore this weekend and found its also Irish weekend there. God I hope I make the gun show!

I’m not sure who will see this message. my name is Eugene Burke, son of Gene 61. I wanted to let everyone know that my father passed away Saturday August 16 peacefully in his home. He always enjoyed everyone’s company on this forum. He would have wanted me to let everyone know.
Thank you

Eugene,
So sorry to hear about your father. My thoughts are with you and your family. Gene had become a regular here and I always enjoyed reading his posts. Although most of us on here rarely meet each other in person, it starts to feel like family after a while. He seemed like a great guy and I wish I could have had the chance to meet him. I hope all the fond memories of your father will soon outweigh the sadness you are feeling today.
Cheers to Gene, rest well and hopefully there is an abundance of underpriced, high condition Winchesters waiting at your final destination.
Take care,
~Gary~
Hello Eugene,
I am truly sorry that we are meeting under such painful and sad circumstances. Your father and I spoke together on the phone several times in the past year or so, and I very much enjoyed the conversations that we shared. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to you and your entire family. Rest in Peace Gene, as you will be sorely missed by many people in your former existence.

Hello Eugene,
I will join with the others and express my sincere regret at hearing about the loss of your father. Gene and I corresponded fairly often about some of his rifles and we got to know each other better as he was a big fan of the blog I kept while my wife and I traveled to Italy a couple years ago. From that we began to exchange Italian wine suggestions. As I understand it your mom was not a big red wine fan at first but your dad eventually won her over with a few good chiantis.
I will most definitely miss Gene and hope that you and your family will gain some happiness from realizing how many others enjoyed knowing him even if it was just via the computer.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I always liked reading Gene’s posts here very much and there was always a chance of a good chuckle.
Thank you for the link Michael.
Sincerely,

Here is a link to the foundation which Gene supported and the family has asked that remembrance donations be made to. Based on my conversations with Gene I knew of his strong willingness to support the youth of his are and his drive to coach soccer. He was so much more than just another Winchester collector. I urge us all to donate and continue his gestures to help others. Donations can be mailed to:
