Hey wanted to take a quick second to introduce myself. Name’s Austin. I reside in the great state of Maine. Inherited a gun collection from my pops when he passed. Anyway have some older Winchesters and am looking to soak up some Winchester knowledge. I was told this is the place to go so here I am. Looking forward to future discussions and meeting people. Thanks for having me!

Arizona huh. My wife and I met out in Wickenberg when we worked at the Rancho def Los Callaberos (sp?). Are you familiar with the area? We visited Tempe, Phoenix and Lake Havasue (think that was the name of it) while we ere there. Loved it out that way.

Yes I am very familiar with the places you have mentioned. I am a Canadian but spend my Winters in Arizona and enjoy this State very much. I have also spent a lot of time in Maine as I was born and lived most of my life about 60 miles from the Maine / US border (Calais). There used to be a lot Winchester Collectors that I knew in Maine and used to regularly attend to gun shows in Bangor and Portland.

There is a gun shop in I believe China ME. named Wildwood. He has an enormous collection of Winchesters and other vintage long and short guns.

Good place to simply visit and a good place to pick up a good find every now and then.

I’ve hunted every corner of Maine for Deer, Turkey, Bear, Coyote and one time even for Moose! Great state it is. I now hunt in the Dover Foxcroft area every fall.

Welcome to the board!

I’m an avid hunter as well though I’ve never gotten a moose permit so haven’t had a chance to hunt those yet. My 13 year old newphew, however, got a moose permit the first time he put in for the lottery annnnd shot a moose (785lbs dressed) his first time out. Lucky little s hit lol! I know some older guys who have been moose hunting their entire lives and have never even seen a moose. I know he was way up north just not sure what town exactly.

Those guys that have never seen a Moose in Maine need to get out of their livingrooms!

It is rare that I don’t bump into a moose when in the woods north of Sebec Lake. You need to be careful when driving at dusk anywhere in Maine.

I’ve had moose so close while fly fishing in the spring that I have been able to touch them with a 9′ fly rod!

I know right. I took a trip up to Rangely and had one walking right beside my vehicle on the side of the road. They’re everywhere up here lol!

Can’t say I recognize the name Coltarts but it’s been a few years since I been in the area except for a couple of years ago I purchased an out board motor from a guy in Canaan Maine. Back in the 70s I used to Coonhunt out of Dixmount Maine, not far from Bangor. Yes there used to be some good gun shops in the State, I remember one was Old Town Trading Post, not sure if it is still in business. I also worked down in Maine in the ’80s , built a small Co-Gen Power Plant in Athens Maine.
Good luck in your collecting endeavors.
