Meanea, this is what you said about the show last year:
"Renewed my membership for another year with the girls. I found the Winchester portion and the overall show smaller than last year with many Dump Obama posters. For the Winchesters I saw 1 trapper collection and 1 1895 collection. Hardly any 1886’s and 1876’s. A few 73’s 92’s and 94’s. Few if any model 70’s. Don D was there with a few Winchesters and parts. Very few Winchester collectables. Did see a Henry @ $32,000 in the main show and a wooden crate full of Western Super X 16 gauge shells 8 boxes or so. There was a few Hi-Standard collectors within the Winchester section.
The way I saw it

And this is what Well_is said:
"I have not set up for the Springfield Mass. show for about 5 years. Prior to that, I had Winchester rifles on display every year from 2001-2007. It was a great show with many WACA members. I got to meet George Madis and his lovely wife along with many other notable Winchester collectors.
I stopped attending (as did they) for many reasons. Mass politics, rising hotel rates with a 20% sir charge on rooms to fund the fair grounds, increased table rates, increased admission, plus $5.00 parking for everyone (even exhibitors) at the fair grounds. To add insult to injury the Hartford Conn. Show (20-30 miles away) was on the same weekend.
But honestly, the biggest reason for me leaving was that fellow collectors stopped attending. They could get much more for their items in Louisville Ky. and Tulsa Ok. the following months. To make up for the collectors leaving, the show sponsors turned a great show into a flea market. Very sad, but true!"
I was thinking about going because it’s an easy 3 hour drive for me. I’ve been to many regular gun shows over the years but never one with the WACA. Up to now I was excited about finally going to the Eastern WACA show but if there is going to be a lack of Winchester collectibles to look at and considering previous statements about prior years shows then I’m not certain now if I should go.
Easy C note for gas plus entry and parking fees and of course 6 plus hours of driving. So Meanea is it worth my time and money ❓ Angel
I use to go to this show when it was being held in Portland Maine and in those days it was a great show, good attendance and lots of displays. I remember seeing my first 1 of 1000 ’73 at that show. I think this was back in the early 90s or late 80s. I haven’t been to the Eastern show since they changed to Springfield so I can’t comment on this venue. I am sure it’s like most shows the collectors are few and fewer that go and just display.

Well Angel I will not be able to answer that for you, but you should always try most things once. Maybe you can get Paulene to go as I think she is rather close
Meanea
Brian you are correct about just displaying and for us it is hard to buy anyways
Meanea, I went to the WAWC Eastern Show, West Springfield, MASS this week-end and there were a few tables perhaps five maybe more that had Winchesters and I had a nice time. I picked up a front & rear sight which would of cost me double the amount of money on E bay. There were sights that I thought were hard to get but they were there in quantity! Albeit 4 or 5 they were there. One rifle did catch my eye and it was an 1886 with nice case coloring and in 45-90. If I had the $6,500.00 dollars to buy it…….I might of
Attached are just a very few pictures of what was there. I had a good time and made a few contacts and you have to go to a show to pickup what you need (a bigger show would be better). Angel

Was there today also, came down Friday night and came home sat afternoon. A 6 hr drive for me. I might have even seen you there as a saw somebody taking pics with a smart phone. I bought an 1873 rear sight and some tang sight screws from Don D. Also bought 2 1978-1979 Winchester Western calenders from the main show. The trappers were nice as well as that deluxe 1886. The show is getting smaller and was even smaller than last year.

Meanea, if the guy taking the picture had a part black and mostly od-green jacket on, it was me! I do have a question for you on the 1886 that Mike Methe had on his rack of Winchesters. Did you happen to ask or see what the condition of the bore was in for that 45-90? And am I correct in saying that the 86 did not have a pistol grip?
Did you happen to come across an 1876 40-60 I believe with the flip up beech or lyman front and the Mid-Range Vernier Peep sight? Although it wasn’t perfect I thought it was in very nice shape. The table belonged to an older gentleman. Those 76’s are just monstrous in size and weight! I still would love to have one in one of the larger calibers.
Angel
Yes, what was that 1886 like for $6,500? Condition? Special order features?
I guess the diminishing size of that show just reflects the attitude toward firearms in that part of the country? Sad, really. It is baffling to me that this area of the country is not very pro-firearm, as it is where most of the major firearms manufacturers of the country were or are located. In addition to Winchester, you have Smith & Wesson, Colt, and Marlin, just to name a few.
I would think the deluxe did have a pistol grip, did not ask about the bore as he would not sell anyway. The deluxe was in high condition so I assume the bore would follow
Sorry don’t remember the 76. When you walked in there was a good display of Winchesters on the right side, I thought they should have been in the Winchester section

We are not talking about the same 86, I am talking about the 86 deluxe on display with the tang sight and case color

Spoke to the owner and it is for sale. It’s a standard 86 in 45-90 not a deluxe and he’s taking it to the Tulsa show where he says it will sell right away. I have to much on my plate so it’s not an opportune time. The bore he said was mint ❗ Angel
