Looking for an 1894 carbine barrel in 38-55.  It doesnt have to be pristine on the outside, just a bore that would rate 8+ or better out of 10.

Thanks

Chris

I’m sorry that you didn’t make it to Cody but I scored just the carbine you’re looking for from an old cowboy that has nearly as much character as his carbine. Maybe it’s best you weren’t there, I’m sure glad it went home with me. I think it’s the one I’m holding in the latest edition of the “Collector”. Bore may be a little shy of your “8” but it shoots pretty well, so far. I’ll bring it to San Marcos in a few months, maybe I’ll be tired of it by then.

Oops, just realized you were looking for a barrel, not a carbine. Oh, well. Hope to see you in San Marcos anyway.

If you decide to change calibers, I’ve got a beauty in 30 WCF.  I would rate the bore a very strong 9 and it has most of the original finish, thinning in a few area’s.

Thanks Erin, appreciate the offer.

Ive been looking for a 38-55 SRC to give to a hunting buddy of mine.  He likes the carbine I use when we hunt and wants one for himself.  Ive just about abandoned looking on the internet.  And at Tulsa, there were a few to be found but they were either higher condition on the outside but had a poor bore, or were clunkers that were overpriced.  Just need one that meets the right parameters.  I know it will go through some hard use, so nothing too terribly fancy on the outside, some condition, good wood, saddle ring, but a good bore has to be one of its better qualities.  Will likely spend a lot of its time either under the truck seat or on the floorboard.

My second option was to find a decent barrel to swap out with one of several carbines I have in 30WCF (sorry purists out there).  Ive given him a later carbine in 32WS that he’s used to take lots of game (deer, hogs, coyotes) in the last couple of years but he wants something in an old but different cartridge that shoots a heavy bullet.  One of them “old calibers”, so to speak.  Just trying to satisfy a need, no monetary gain involved, and trying not to break the bank.
