Rick I’ll keep my eye out. Really no gun shows open for me right now. You probably already know this but at least 20 yrs. ago repops were at every major gun show. They dissapeared for a number of years then reappeared. I remember the old guys saying the color was not right. I don’t remember if it was the yellow or a green they were complaining about. I think it was the geenish tinge. Anyway real or not they were still getting $1,000.
I remember seeing a crate of wood rods at a gun show 20 some years ago, it was said at the time by the owner that they were real. The word at the show was they were reproductions. I have never handeled enough real ones to know the difference. They are worth enough money to attract more than one skilled manufacturer.
My late gun collector friend had a stray set that he told me were reproduction, I could not tell. When the rods were sold at auction they brought real money. I’m sure if you find someone that handled enough of them he would know. You would have to trust the seller if you are paying more than $1000. T/R
Tom, I really don’t have many old friends left that know what a real one looks like. My friend Doug Beneck passed away about a week ago. If you look in most any book on Henrys he will be mentioned. Les Quick passed away quite awhile ago. A few years ago Doug had a collection worth over 7 figures. Most of his guns were sold in the last 10 years. When I started collecting in the 80’s I had a lot of friends in their 80’s. Now I have few 80 year old friends left.
I have not seen Tom Burness for some time but if he could be contacted I would trust his opinion. I would trust Denny Hanel’s opinion too.
Thanks to all for your suggestions and comments. I needed one for an early four digit martial marked gun and was lucky enough to find one, unmolested, with an inspectors mark. Thanks to my friend chayns1969. He found it, put me in touch with the owner and from there, it was a done deal.
