As the topic says, I’m searching for an uncut, unaltered factory-original stock to replace the custom furniture on a 57-vintage, Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in 300 H&H. While I want a suitable, unmolested stock, I might consider other options, i.e., one with an aftermarket recoil pad or an earlier low-comb version. While it’d be nice to find a stock with the original finish, I would accept one with worn finish, as long as there are no cracks, gouges, or deep scratches. A friend does professional quality stock restorations, so he’d fix me up.
I’ve searched the standard sources and, while there are some alternatives floating about, I haven’t found that perfect stock. So, if any of you Pre-64 70 fans have one sitting unused in a closet, or know someone who does, hook me up, please.
Thank you.
*bay has a couple listed…but they have aftermarket pads. Steve Emmert has a pile of stocks. Give him a try. I have a 300 H&H stock available, but it’s been modified w/ cheek rise and pachmayr pad. It was from a collection I purchased, all of the stocks had the same work done while stationed in Germany. He had the work done by Fuches in Austria. The work is first rate. I was able to locate proper stocks, but it took a while and the cost: $400 (264 Mag), $450 (243 Varmint & 300 H&H) to $650 (375 H&H)…
