For sale is an early Thick Base graduated Peep Tang Sight, with the “76”, stamped on the underside flat spring. All original with nothing modified, including the screw holes, as a good honest Tang Sight, with a fair amount of original honest bluing on the thick base, and the 1 inch dia. knurled eye piece. The 4 1/8 inch tall Leaf, with good honest light fading bluing, turning to a very pleasant patina. Honest wear and use is evident, as the graduated marked staff show previous light adjustment marks. According to James Gordon Volume one book, 1873 Tribute, the “Early Graduated Peep Sight,(Thick Base), was first seen in the 1879 catalog, eliminating the exposed spring, on the earlier first sight. In the 1887 catalog, Winchester modified the base to a, “Thin Base”, around serial number 250,000. Making this sight seen on rifles from 1879-1887. A very desirable and hard to find sight.
It is my understanding that this sight has been found on the models 1873, 1876, and the 1885.
I will try to play with the picture sizing to show them upright, as when I posted them first from my PC, they we’re sent straight and vertical. If additional or any pics are needed, PM me and I can send them to any interested members cell phone.

Wow I’m very lucky. I just purchased a 3rd model that came with that same sight. My front is a Beech sight. I’m waiting on the letter so see if its listed. I removed the sight, and the bluing looked brand new so its been there a long time.

Thanks Steve, as we know it’s not a common every day sight that is seen. I know a few guy’s here have them, and know that they’re hard to come by.
Brian, that’s pretty neat that you have one on you’re 76. I hope it’s on the letter, as many times they weren’t. I always enjoyed seeing that nice C.C. under a tang site when it’s removed, verifying the length of time being on the rifle.

With a couple members who contacted me and reminding me on the lack of blue and the well used but nice condition, even though a hard to find and the rarity of this early site, I have decided to move it, possibly to a member, before I post it elsewhere.
$1150.00 shipped!
