Has been listed for some time on ebay with no takers at sky-high price, but maybe seller is ready to entertain a reasonable offer, like around $300. Read seller’s explanation of why he’s calling it a “Lyman Winchester”; typical of the misinformation to be found in Stroebel’s scope book.

Clarence, these scopes are not rare, or even scarce. It’s the special bases that are rare and scarce. I have a set I have been holding on to. They can bring top dollar. On another site, there is a real nice A5 with one bid. $450. One day to go. Now that is a deal. I would bid, but I already have two. Big Larry

Larry, I posted that one on another thread, though no one paid it any attention. It was originally a “BIN” for $700, which would have been a pretty good deal, but when the current bid of $450 was placed, the BIN was knocked out–some mindless new ebay rule. Something very fishy about that bidder–has a ZERO feedback rating. But as you know, it’s common for the bid price to double in the last 10 min of the auction, so I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t sell for at least the original BIN price.
After JWA’s Model 75 book appears, I suspect interest in these 8X scopes will go through the roof.

JWA bought my M75 with the 8X scope. BTW, I am selling off some of my stuff. Big Larry

Clarence I have been watching the A5 at your suggestion on my M54 post. Have you noticed the pictures that were added/updated today? They reveal condition that I fear is less than my rifle and I’m afraid it would look out of place.Regards, Darrin
Darrin, Maybe I missed something, but it looked very clean to me. Something specific that alarms you?

Yes, what’s wrong with it? What are you putting it on? I have one NIB and another on a 1927 vintage M52. Big Larry

The bluing appeared to be worn thin over a large part of the scope body.
Almost inevitable with very much use, due to sliding back & forth through the rings. But I see so many with pitting, scrapes, or dents that, comparatively, it’s not bad. Not too many new in the box, like Larry’s.

Buyer got a heck of a deal. As far as old scopes go, that A5 was a dandy. I wonder what the buyer is putting it on? Big Larry
