Hello, I have come across a model 94 made in 1951. The gun has a Lyman 66A receiver mounted peep sight. I have also taken note that the wood stock on this rifle is much fancier than on most 94’s that I have seen. Is it possible that this rifle was custom made by winchester for a customer with this peep sight and a fancy stock?

Possibly, but unlikely during that timeframe. What is the serial number and caliber?

OK, this is my opinion… someone had it drilled & tapped for the receiver sight after the fact.  The serial number does identify it as a 1951 production Model 94 Carbine.  Winchester did not begin drilling & tapping the receiver for a peep sight until late in the year 1952, in the 1906400 serial number range.  Further, I do not believe that Lyman introduced the No. 66A sight until 1954.  Accordingly, I would view your Model 94 as a non-factory original piece unless there is verifiable proof to the contrary.
