Hi team – selling my deceased cousin’s 1894 in 32-40. SN indicates 1903 date of manufacture. It has been reblued & looks amazing, as in 95%+. There is a filled dovetail ~2 inches in front of the forward hand guard on top of the octagonal barrel. Trying to find out why (option when ordered?). Have a potential buyer but they think it may be a repair rather than factory option. Any ideas or answers? Thanks!
It would help if you can provide a few clear pictures of the rifle.
Just to clarify this for you, a reblued Winchester is a 0% condition gun. The filled dovetail in the location you mention was not a factory option. I suspect it was added by a past owner and used for a scope mounting block.
