Can anyone advise what year or when Winchester “stopped” stamping the Pat date(1901) on the 1A/1B/1C elevators ?

Hi Rick,

Good question!

I looked at the Winchester drawings for the 1A, 1B and 1C and there is no mention of the omission of the patent date in the drawing revisions. The drawing revisions on my drawings only go up to 1935 though so it is possible it was dropped after that, or it could have been dropped earlier and just not mentioned, although in all other sight drawings the omission of the patent dates were indicated in the revision log.

Hopefully someone else has the definitive answer as I am now curious myself.

JWA I know late 1937 was the end of production for “rifles” & the 38-55/32-40 caliber, so could’ve been when the Pat date stopped.
Maybe somebody here who owns one that year or even 1936 can advise if the Pat date is stamped on the elevator.
