I am trying to identify the correct front and rear sights for my 1886 45-90 ca 1893.  The sights are missing so I’m starting from zero.
would the 22b with adjustable leaf and serrated edges be correct?

The rear barrel sight would be the Sporting rear with the screw and the standard front which was called the Sporting front.

Early sporting front sight had no set screw.  Sometime in the late 1880’s to early 1890’s the set screw starts appearing on rifles.  No set screw shown in the catalog until 1914. As stated, I suspect it may have been introduced earlier.

Winchester sights were available on any of their rifles per the catalog.

Ben should be able to fix you up.

The Winchester drawings calls that later sporting front sight a number “21” for the Model 1886 (for certain calibers).  Unfortunately, I don’t have any Change of Manufacture notices for that sight so I can’t definitely state when the screw was added.

I believe that the set screw on what was later called a No. 21 Sorting sight was added in 1900 or 1901.

On a side note, the Lyman No. 4 Hunting sight (with ivory insert), was a very commonly installed front sight for the Model 1886.
