According to Dan Shuey’s books a large number of center fire black powder loads were discontinued by 1938. The BP 38-55 was last loaded in 1935 and was discontinued in 1937. In 1947 blanks were the only ones still loaded with black powder. He does not say what caliber of blanks,

Just keeping this post fresh in the event someone else stumbles onto it here & knows the answer(introduction date for the California full buckhorn 26A).AG
I previously suggested one way this could be done, or at least approximated–by catalog research. I pointed out that it was listed in the 1925 catalog, but not that of 1918. That leaves only 4 or 5 years of “uncertainty,” & it’s unlikely it was done until all war production ended. Cornell Pubs. publishes cheap reprints of those years, so there you go.
I got the 12 volume set but don’t have time to look through them.

Stroebel’s “Old Gunsights” book has some catalog excerpts, including 1926 and 1929. The California Buckhorn sporting rear sight, No. 26A is listed in the 1926, 1929 and 1935 catalogs. It is not listed in the 1918 catalog.
I have to wonder why this sight and others have change dates that seem to pre-date when they showed up in catalogs. Is this possibly the “mail order” angle?
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder

How do you place a mail-order for something that isn’t listed in the catalog, or some other advertisement? In other words, how do you know it exists, unless you have some private source of info direct from the company?
