Hi Bert,

I was not trying to straighten anyone out, I was just trying to prevent duplicate effort since I had already searched ALL of the patents issued on that date several years ago to find that patent.  FWIW, it was the only patent issued to Winchester on that date and the only patent related to firearms.

No… not exactly.  It all depends on which specific Winchester Model you find an unmarked elevator on.

So you see, Rick, the only positively sure way to escape this uncertainty is to knock out the rear sight & replace it with a tang sight, as any expert rifleman would have done!
