This is the front sight on my 1876. Has anyone seen a front sight this low? It doesn’t appear to be filed or cut down. When I got the rifle, the bore was pretty much gone from black powder pitting, so I had it relined at Redman’s. Now it’s fairly accurate, but shoots 18″ high at 50yd and about 12″ high at 100. I’d like to replace it, but after much research, I’m not sure what to replace it with. I’d like to keep the rifle correct. Any suggestions appreciated.
That is one short sight, It looks like a Lyman. What was standard on a 76 was the #21 which looks like the picture below. They made them with a set screw and without. You want the one without the screw like pictured. The total height of it should be about .360″ including the dovetail base. When buying one online you have to make sure of the height since the they got filed down a lot.

You can find these #21 front sights on eBay. You have to be real careful and don’t trust seller descriptions. You want a 3/8″ dovetail and compare to the sights that Bob showed in the photo. You can ask sellers how high it is, but they can’t always provide measurements.
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder
