Hello. I have a Winchester 12 Gauge Nickel Steel shotgun barrel that is from the shop of a late gunsmith I am able to buy a ton of inventory from. I was wondering if anyone knew the age and the model of shotgun this barrel is for.

There are patents from 1901 – 1912, skipping a few years in sequence and 12 Gauge and Nickel Steel all engraved on it.

The other markings are full, which I know is Full Choke.

On the opposite side of those markings are VP, MNS, the number 3. It looks like there may have been a number before the 3 but I cannot read it.

The barrel has a 3 3/4″ metal tube attached to the bottom side of the barrel more towards the side that inserts into the rest of the shotgun.

There is a part towards the end of the barrel that has like a grip (factory made rough like area) bore into the metal. Like, the rest of the barrel is smooth but that band is rough to the touch and easy to grip.

The total length of the barrel is 31 1/8″.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a 1911 but pics are even better than your excellent description.

If you’ll e-mail them to me @ [email protected] I’ll post them to confirm.

Yep..Winchester Model 1911 Autoloader. The knurling on the barrel is used to pull the barrel back to  lock the bolt open to load the chamber. Dangerous  design by most accounts.
