You can be first to shoot my 375 Friday. As a consolation.

You’re hurting my feelings 🙁

I had a feeling once. Couldn’t get nothing for it so I dropped it in the Goodwill bin. Don’t worry, those clueless kids will be back soon to keep your underlings too busy to stir up stuff…maybe.

LOL I just saw these two posts. I’ll accept your 375 firing and raise you one 1873 firing with a video. You can use my phone to video since I also owe a video to someone at Wyoming Armory!

Thanks Bill for checking your model 50 and confirming its buttplate as the straight winchester logo as that is what I will look for.
My gun is no where near collector grade it is a shooter and the recoil pad installed on it was clearly installed by someone that does not do this for a living.
If anyone happens to have a pad for sale please let me know.
Thanks and good shooting!
Ken

I found the one in my stock that should match….no guarantee it wouldn’t need some hand fitting. I can’t remember where I got it but it was for a project gun that never happened. I can take measurements if you need. Send me a PM if interested.

Ken, on one of my posts above, top right corner of the post box, hit the middle icon with the envelope on it. I compared my extra one to the one installed on my shotgun, it’s a tad bit longer, so should have enough extra material to be fit correctly, but like I said, it would have to be fit somewhat no matter what, highly unlikely it would screw right on perfectly if that makes sense.

They never threw anything away. That serial is higher than mine. Ken, I think the assemblers were using them interchangeably, which is typical of WRA.

I have a Model 61 with grooved receiver and a serial high enough that it ought to have a plastic buttplate. It has the blued, checkered, flat steel buttplate that was the previous standard. WRA ordered a supply of the plastic before the steel ran out, then filled the bins with both to be used in production. We see this for lots of cosmetic and non-cosmetic parts. In 1955, if you ordered a 52 Sporting Rifle you might get a B or a C, unless you specified which. They were still making both until the B parts were used up. And those two variants were different in significant ways.

It was pretty awesome, Doug. Handled and shot better than a new gun. There will not be a video posted of the tweaking of the 1873’s front sight. Definitely not for the squeamish! For the record I passed on shooting Bill’s thumper, he and Jeremy were pleasantly surprised that recoil wasn’t as violent as they expected.

Doug, when I get Zeb’s pics, I’ll send you a link to the media! There may or may not have been some front sight tappin’…but we did it without injury to anyone or anything!

Check out eBay under Winchester Model 12. Someone is selling new, original buttplates like the ones here in the photos. Smile
