I have a Model 21 – 16 Gauge that was manufactured in July 1939. I have a Winchester letter of the original manufacture’s data and order sheet. It is a standard grade, 16″ barrels, choked WS1 and WS2. The gun does not have any stamping on the bottom plate in front of the trigger guard such as SKEET or anything else like I’ve seen on other Model 21s. It also does not have any stamping on the selective single trigger such as an arrow of which way to push the selector button to select which barrel will fire like I’ve seen on other Model 21s. Does anyone have an idea why it would not have such markings? Did the earlier manufactured guns not have such markings? Was it something forgotten during production? Thanks for your help.
Dean,
I hope that you mis-typed the barrel lengths, and that they are actually 26-inches versus 16″.
You stated that it is a “standard” grade gun. If that is true, it should not be marked “SKEET”. In regards to the SST, does the factory order sheet specify it?

Bert:Please excuse my typo – barrel length is 26″
Order sheet states: “Ordered as Standard Grade”
“Non-Automatic safety” “Single trigger” “Selective ejector” and other things
The barrels are stamped WS1 and WS2
Thank you for your help.

Sounds like it is a standard grade with a factory upgraded trigger, shorter than standard barrels, and Skeet chokes. The fact that it matches the factory order sheet is really the only truly important aspect.
