I just got a really nice condition, like new, actually it appears original finish model 25 modified choke, pump.  I have another, serial 50xx, this one is 121xx.  So do I likely have a first and last years models?  Have a bunch of model 12s and 97s, and love them, but the 25s feel especially solid, with the no take-down feature.

If I understand you correctly, you have one Model 25 in the 5000 – 5099 serial number range, and another one in the 12100 – 12199 serial number range.  If that is correct, both guns are most likely first year guns.  A “last year” Model 25 would have a serial number in the 80000 – 87937 range.

So one with serial number 64## is certainly a 1949 manufacture date?

The odds are extremely high that it was manufactured in 1949. Have you checked the barrel date?

I don’t see anything on the barrel but I haven’t taken it apart.  I do see what appears to be a “G1” stamp behind the trigger guard.

The 2-digit year numb er is stamped on the bottom of the barrel approximately 1-2 inches forward of the receiver frame.
