Riot Gun barrels were all CYL bore and marked accordingly.  To the best of my knowledge, Winchester did not mark them “RIOT”.

Does it have a mail order proof mark stamp on it?  Have you checked for a 2-digit year number stamped on the bottom of the barrel.  Like I previously mentioned, I have not ever seen a factory Model 12 Riot Gun marked “RIOT” (until today).

The proof mark stamp should be on the top of the barrel, right next to the take down extension ring. What is the serial number on the gun (that will tell me when it was manufactured) ?

It is not on a gun it is just a barrel never been on a gun. It was still wrapped in paper when I got it. There is not a stamp on top I thought that meant it was a replacement barrel. Only thing on it is in picture.

OK, and that explains it… it is a mail order replacement barrel.  Winchester’s factory original Model 12 Riot Guns were not marked “RIOT” as was done on that barrel.

I suspect that a roll die was used to mark it.

So does that mean Winchester did not do it? I got I awhile back tried looking it up on line only found 1 thing Some one said they did it in the 60s.I figured it was a replacement barrel. Have not found any one that has seen one. I would think if it was fake they would have marked it Cylinder.

No, it does not, and I believe that Winchester most likely marked it.  However, it was not a standard production barrel.

My question to Bert had nothing to do with it being not correct.  I just have never seen something like this and the word RIOT is not marked in the usual font.

I have seen another Model 12 commercial riot barrel marked the same way.  It was a loose barrel (not attached to a receiver).  Seems that Winchester may have marked late production Model 12 replacement riot barrels this way.

With no 2-digit year number on them, they would have been made after 1955.

I was going to put it on late model but I think it’s more interesting not. I only paid 135.00
