Hello folks.
I have recently acquired this beautiful Winchester Model 12 Shotgun. I was looking for help with determining the “Grade”.
The Vent Rib is marked “Simmons Gun Specialties”, the Barrel is 28″ Full Choke. The Bluing is near perfect and wood grain is a nicely marbled Walnut with cut checkering that is sharp to the touch. The serial number dates to 1952. Any help identifying this would be appreciated.
Hello Terrence,
What you have is a totally reworked and refinished standard (Field) grade Model 12. At some time in the past, your gun was sent to the Simmons Gun Company and they installed the new Vent Rib, the new stocks, and then polished and reblued it. Simmons has reworked thousands of Model 12 shotguns over several decades for the people who wanted to “upgrade” their guns.
