I have been offered a model 12 Winchester 28 ga. skeet [so marked on bottom of the receiver] with a solid rib. What has me concerned is that the bbl.is choked CYL.
The serial # indicates 1937 manufacture and I thought the early skeet guns were all marked skeet on the bbl.
Thanks in advance for your help

In the "old" days, you could order a Model 12 in Skeet Grade with any available choke. The biggest concern I would have is was it originally a 28 gage! I have seen a few fakes over the years. If you are allowed, pull of the butt stock and check the rear mating surface of the reciever. It should be stamped with a 28. Also, does the gun have skeet grade wood? Also, what is the barrel length? If everything checks out and the gun is in good shape without being refinished, it could be worth a oretty penny! Would love to see photo’s if available.
Also check the magazine hanger loop- which is different than for the plain barreled M12’s– should have 28 stamped on one of the rearward facing boss- and if you can field strip it prior to buying, the ejector will be different than those found on the 12-16 and 20 gauge M12’s– Caveat Emperor- advice old Nero never took!!
"Here's lookin' at you, kid!"
