Just acquired this shotgun and looking for as much information as I can find. It is a model 12 pump 20 gauge. The barrel is marked 20 gauge chambered 2 3/4″ MOD.

Thanks guys for any information you can give me. If you need any more information please don’t hesitate to ask.

The serial number is 16539XX.

Bert can probably tell you a lot more info than me, I’m sure he will chime in soon. He’ll want to know the full serial number.

I can tell you that the checkering on the stocks is not factory.

Sincerely,

Maverick

It was manufactured early in the year 1955, the stocks are aftermarket replacements, and the gun has seen a lot of use and handling based on the extensive wear to the receiver bluing.  Don’t shoot it with Steel shot loads.

Thanks for the information so far fellas. The serial is 1653973 if that helps any.

What else can you tell me I know there are several versions of this gun (I might not get this across correctly) duck, skeet and so forth.

This gun will be for sale and some point but I would like to know as much about it as possible so I can give someone the correct information.

I would say if someone wants to sell this—don’t count on retiring on what it brings.  My guess is it’s worth $200 to $250 and that’s only because it’s in 20 gauge.

It was a standard (Field) grade gun that a past owner altered (customized) to suit his own fancy.  Due to the aftermarket alterations, and the amount of wear & tear to the gun, it has nearly zero value in the collector market.  As a “shooter” grade gun, the value will be determined by the interest level of the potential buyers.  The fact that it should not be shot with Steel shot loaded shells will negatively mitigate the interest by the fellows looking for a hunting tool.

The oldies like this are getting harder and more costly to use thanks to the non toxic shot requirements. Bismuth shot is a choice we old gun owners can use. I’ve a wild hair to play with small gauge and Tungsten shot. I’m intrigued by it, but do recognize the importance of excellent wads to protect barrel steel. Tungsten is quite costly and is non toxic.

That would make a nice Upland Bird gun. Where I’m at I do not need to use steel shot, I’d pay $200 for that gun.
