The 28…
SN – 1613733, 1957, 28ga, 2 7/8″, SKEET, 26″ Simmons Vent Barrel – Skeet Gun?
Yes, it is a Skeet Gun, but with an aftermarket Vent Rib and recoil pad. It was refinished when Simmons installed the VR. It was manufactured in September 1954.
Edit. Forget about that question. Brain not fully in gear. LOL It is the Winchester proof mark that is on the top, not the choke marking. There is no Winchester proof mark on the side so a plain barrel, with a Simmons vent rib installed. Am i correct on that.:)
Yes, you are correct in your line of thought. The “Skeet” marking is correct. The fact that the Winchester Proof mark is underneath the VR is the clue that that it is an aftermarket alteration. Still, it is nice gun and one that many would pay good money for.

I know all gun values are based on what people are willing to pay… Just in case I get hit by a bus, I try to keep records with model information and the approximate value of the items I own. Most are pretty straight forward in the latest Blue Book of Gun Values, but does the 28ga fall under the Model 12 SLIDE ACTION chart since it didn’t originally have a rib, or under the Model 12 SKEET GUN table as a plain barrel without rib adjustment?
I appreciate all the information I am getting from this forum!

Just to back up what Bert is saying, many years ago I USED to get the Blue Book for help. Quickly realized the values reflected therein for the antique lever actions, at least, were woefully out of date at their publishing. I would have LOVED to have been able to purchase the 1873’s for instance, at the values reflected in the Blue Book! Just my take on the matter! Tim
