I have a Model 12, ser no. 4958 in 16 gauge. 26″ full choke. Matching numbers. According to my research, this receiver would have been laying around for a couple years before having a 16 ga barrel assy. made for it. Is this correct, and does any one know of any earlier numbered 16’s?
Thanks
Hello Bob,
The receiver frame was serialized in mid November 1912. Production of the 16-ga Model 1912 shotguns began just a few months later in early 1913. There are no surviving records to tell us what the “first” 16-ga gun was, but it is safe to state that your Model 1912 was most likely in one of the early production runs. If the barrel is not marked MOD. “1912”, it is not the original barrel.
