Apologies gentlemen. I have been lurking in this forum for years but seems I only post when looking for information.
Yesterday picked up a Winchester Cooey 840 in 410 caliber. Have to register it on Monday. The frame serial looks to be 1963C but may be a badly stamped 19630. The barrel serial could also be either and the number chalked under the butt plate is indecipherable.
My question is did any Winchester manufactured Cooeys have a C suffix? Thanks in advance.Ross.
Thanks for the response. I phoned the Firearms Registry this morning and they confirmed it is registered as 1963C so will leave it at that. Looks like a “C” but cannot work out how to download photos here. It came from a deceased estate and the daughter could not find and paperwork or records and did not know if it was registered.
The e mail for Scott is, [email protected] He most likely could tell you for sure and no doubt would like to add your gun to his research.
Hello,
Out of curiosity I looked up a few pictures of Model 840s available on line.
I found serial numbers from 5 to 7 digits.
Several of them have the “C”; I strongly believe that there is no “C”, it’s just a bad “0” (zero) stamp.
One of them has even a double CC, which it’s really a double 00.
See picture of some examples.
I emailed Scott Jamieson as suggested by 28 gauge. Here is his reply, in part:
“Good morning, Ross,
That sounds pretty conclusive – so 19630 it is. Thanks gentlemen.
