Hello to all. I was given a disassembled mod 97 12ga brush gun about 20 years ago (1905 C type) by a good (now passed) friend. Recently retired, I wanted to restore. I started by doing a parts inventory and evaluation to see where I stood. After cleaning and identifying and bagging all the parts, I found only two minor ones missing and a few more minor ones worn so as to warrant potential replacement. But that is not my problem. After identifying everything on the NRA diagram and a few oddballs due to this being a C gun, I still had 4 parts extra. 1. A pin about 1/16 x 1/2 long. 2. A small rectangular, curved flat piece about 1/4×1/2×1/16 with 2x very small prob 4-40 ×1/16 screw holes and the two related screws. I looked over all my parts for hours and spent a lot of time trying to identify these. Assuming this is either a C type difference that’s not on the diagram or parts my old friend got mixed up. Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hello Steve,
It would really help if you could provide clear pictures of the gun and the spare parts.
As a point of interest, the “C” series Model 1897 shotgun production ended in June 1904. The serial number on your gun will tell us exactly when it was manufactured. There are a few physical differences in the early “C” series versus the later “C” guns.
