Very nice!  I surmise that your hunt was much more fun and rewarding using your vintage 92 vs. a modern scoped rifle.

The rewarding part is field dressing! Lots of difference between a high velocity round VS. an old 240 grain cast doing about 1,500. Just a nice clean wound channel with out all the blood shot & surrounding tissue damage. Luckily my eyesight is still pretty good and I am not dependant on optics for a clear sight picture yet.

On a cast bullet board I frequent that’s called “eatin’ right up to the hole”. I don’t mind losing a little bit of meat but the bloodshot meat is annoying.

That’s a great saying there…….I’ve got that one logged in the memory bank permanently.

Thanks for sharing!

Just go ahead and mail me the tenderloins USPS Priority, I should get them before they spoil. 😉

I think if it was a different time more folks would take a Model 92 as a deer rifle. Most people don’t know or forget that the World Record 206″ Typical Jim Jordan Buck was killed with a Model 92 in 25-20!!!!

That sure is a nice fat GAL you got there! I’d take her home any night of the week. 😉

Sincerely,

Maverick

Congrats Erin,

I have never shot deer with my Model 1892’s but quite a few hogs have died by them!

It’s certainly on mine, my 1892 in 38WCF went along as a backup to an older 1894 last year. Someday this capable little rifle will take a nice fat doe or hog.

I would love to do one of the Texas Hog Helo shoots. I have an old Garand that would litteraly be a blast to use. I’ve watched several youtube videos and that looks like way to much fun to even be legal………

I hope you have a couple thousand dollars and LOTS of ammo!!!   Those “hunts” are way expensive!

Yes, can only imagine the price tag. Helicopters costs hundreds of dollars per hour and I have no idea what liability insurance would cost.

I believe the pricing is at about $500 per hour. If 2 guys booked 1/2 day and split the shooting time it’s really not to bad……… I’ve got plenty of 06’s loaded with 165 grn. spitzers so the ammo is good to go. LaughMay have to pick up a bunch more clips tho………I don’t believe brass or clip recovery is an option!

I have seen some videos where the rifle has a “brass collector” attached to the rifle so that it is not flying around inside the chopper and creating a safety hazard.  Smart move for sure.  I have no affection for hogs but lets not confuse these hi tech exterminations with the terminology “hunting”.   My preferred method is to hunt them is with a bow and arrow.  But I do use just about anything as the situation calls for.  A crossbow with a night vision scope is quickly becoming a favorite tree stand night time scenario.  And I tend to not have any shortage of targets.  Hunting hogs makes deer hunting look simple.  The biggest hurdle is that they travel in groups called sounders and it is difficult to get multiple animal kills from a group.  Which is where the arrows come in quite nicely.  I have actually killed three individual pigs out of a single group.  All shots were at 25 yards.  They finally did get tired of watching their friends falling over dead.

Michael,

I have to wholeheartedly agree, hunting hogs (and warthog) is my absolute favorite hunting!
