Finally getting settled in with the 52C that showed up on my doorstep a couple of months ago. I think I’ve done about all I can do with my old eyes, peeps and the ammo I have on the shelf. Norma Match is pretty decent ammo for most guns but it appears this old girl could shoot a bit better with some Eley or another really good ammo. I can’t see the bull well enough at 100 so I went through a box or so at 50. Still a bit hard to make out the bull but I gave it my best shot. I piddled around a bit getting used to the trigger and noticed the rear sight shot loose after about 50 rounds. I snugged them down and decided to regulate the sights for the Norma ammo. Figured while I was at it I’d shoot a 10-shot group to see what the old girl would do. Quite honestly I was relieved when I didn’t blow it! It’s been awhile since I was able to say the ammo held me and a rifle back. I may have to hunt down a scope to see what this old rifle can do. (Scope block spacing seems to be 7 1/4” center to center, just in case anyone has one lying around).

Are you using an aperture for the front sight?  It’s the ONLY way to compensate for visual impairment.

Yes, but the bull is pretty blurry. Overdue for glasses, we’ll see.

If the bull itself–not the aperture–is blurred using your regular prescription, yes, you’re overdue.  Though a blurred bull properly centered in the aperture is not the major impediment you might think.

I, too, am overdue, not having had an optical check-up for two yrs owing to the Chinese Flu hysteria.  So I made an appointment a month ago with the optician I’ve used for the last 30 yrs, & when I arrived found a huge “no mask, no entry” sign on the door.  (Vaccination status–irrelevant.)  Not ONE WORD had been said about this when I made my appointment, nor when I received a follow-up confirmation call.  I walked in, maskless, long enough to tell the receptionist “cancel my appointment.”

The Dems were brought to power by mask hysteria, & they will never give it up unless we resist.

From what I can tell a blurry bull is not a big impediment, I simply wait until I can see the white center before pushing the bang button. I’m thinking pretty seriously about a scope, even after I get new glasses.

When I find a good scope I’ll probably need you to shoot it for me, Big Larry. Maybe I’ll find some good ammo. Ever try Eley Pistol Match?

Thanks, that’s about as good as I can shoot with peeps. I’ve shot that ammo with a bench rest .22 with similar results.

If you’re shooting for your own satisfaction, that’s good enough, isn’t it?    If you’re testing the accuracy of the rifle, not only do you need a scope but several different brands of the best ammo, & of course first-rate bench eqpt.

I had a good supply of 10X ammo I got from a US Army team member. Have never tried Ely pistol ammo. BTW, that group was fired by my good friend Tom.

He does all my testing. Rifle and pistol.    Big Larry

Satisfaction is part of it, I’m primarily curious to see what the rifle was capable of with the equipment available or in use at the time it was built. That’s about as close as I can get to employing a sling and assuming unsupported shooting positions. Since I have no way of determining the quality of the ammunition available at that time I’ll just try to find ammo that shoots at least as well as I do. I have no interest in participating in benchrest competition so I won’t waste the money on fancy bench rests or huge scopes. I suppose my next step is to see what my eye doc can do for me.

Before you go, pick up one of these, or one of the dozen similar designs available on ebay, which I bought after the fiasco at my optician’s.  I’ve been wearing mine every time I go to the grocery or drug store, etc for two weeks, hoping one of the masked fear-mongers inside would say something to me, but it hasn’t happened yet; of course, they’re cowards anyway.
