I came across this on GB today…
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=547446857
While the seller doesn’t explicitly claim that this crate is original to this rifle, I believe a strong inference is made as such in the auction description. I think this particular seller was also discussed in previous posts.
My real question for the experts…when was the last time anyone ever saw the original crate with its Winchester rifle for any rifle made in the early 1900s or before? Is there even a way to ascertain if a crate was shipped with a particular rifle?

As far as I’m concerned, this guy is an outright crook. This same exact gun once belonged to Rob Kassab and was recently sold by Leroy Merz for $7,750.00 with no crate, no “original” paperwork, hang-tag, etc.–see attached. Everything but the gun is an absolute fake and I would not ever buy from this seller no matter what he has for sale. He makes it sound like it’s been in his “dad’s” collection for many years. Instead, he’s a complete fraud trying to scam a quick buck. If I were Mr. Kassab, I would be a bit offended if he’s including a Cody letter with his name on it in this fraudulent sale.
As Don mentioned, the seller is an outright lying scumbag. He has been banned from the WACA website, and has changed his User Id on Gunbroker at least once to avoid the negative feedback. I recommend avoiding his auction listings like the plague!

Thanks Bert. Every time I see his listings on Gunbroker it disgusts me, especially when I see his fraudulent boxed/crated guns go for big money and people are unknowingly getting ripped off. Guys like this take the fun out of our hobby and deserve to be exposed for what they really are.

The only thing I want to add is the letter he is showing in his ad is dated 2-19-2016 so, he probably got one of his own and is not using Mr. Kassab’s. Other than that, I agree with all the other post about this seller.

I won’t go into to detail as to how I know how fake everything is. But it is funny how everything he has listed for sale is in “MINT” condition as described as such.

That’s the best 111 year old wooden box I’ve ever seen! The box must have been stored in an airtight museum vault to be in that condition. Here’s what a shipping box in good condition should look like:
Also interesting is the Guns International listing shows the rifle sale as “Pending” and Selling Dad’s Old Guns already has it listed on Gun Broker for nearly 100% more.
