Could you order a model 71 with a recoil pad from the factory in 1936 ? I am looking at a model 71 Deluxe at what I think is a reasonable price but it has a White Line pad instead of the steel checkered plate. I have looked at quite a few and passed because of the pad but am beginning to wonder if it is possible that the might be original . One with a steel plate has a trigger pull of 13 1/8″ to the plate and the one with the pad is 12 3/8″ to the pad, measuring the wood only . I appreciate any help you can give .

Eddie,

In answer to your question, Yes, you could order a Model 71 with a recoil pad in 1936… but not with a Whiteline pad.  Winchester offered their own solid red rubber pad (with the June 1922 patent date), or a NO-SHOC pad.
