I am bidding on a Winchester Model 64 in .219 Zipper. However, it does not have a bolt peep sight. The serial #1408578. Was the Model 64 offered in .219 Zipper, without a bolt peep sight?

Any help I can get on this subject would be greatly appreciated. My email address: [email protected].

Thanks, Dick Pike

Hello Dick,

The Model 64 in 219 Zipper was standard with a No. 98A bolt peep sight, but it was available on order equipped with a 22-H sporting rear sight.  The key clue as to which sight should be on the rifle in question is the status of the bolt.  If it is milled & tapped for a bolt peep, that it what it should have.  If somebody ordered it with the 22-H sporting sight, the bolt should not be milled & tapped.

Can you tell me if it is a Standard Model 64 rifle or a Deer (deluxe) Rifle?

Hi Bert, thank you for your reply. It is a standard Model 64. The bolt is not tapped. The description says it has a 22-G rear sight.

Winchester used a 22-H sporting rear sight on the Model 64 rifles versus the 22-G that was used on the Model 94 Carbines.  Undoubtedly the person who wrote the ad is confused.
