I think it’s been modified but I am not sure.
The Lyman #21 sight has had its original locking lever replaced by that wing-nut. Search ebay for this sight & you’ll see what the lever looks like, & also how much these sights are worth. Swivels have been added, but I don’t see anything drastically wrong with the gun, except what happened to the breech end of the brl? Looks like it’s been stripped.
I wasn’t sure if the lyman receiver had the threading like that or is it a screw that held the thumb lever.
I am not sure if someone was trying to refinish this and started striping it.
I was wondering what the CS stamping means, I can’t find any reference to that.
Thank you for your info.

Suspect it was probably the initials of some previous (idiot) owner. Well, it could be worse–we’ve seen numerous examples of more extreme idiots who scratch their SS numbers on their guns!
The stocks may have been original at one time, but I don’t believe the sling studs are. The sight on the Receiver, does not appear to be a proper Lyman 21 sight. Seems like a homemade copy. The screws are all wrong, the rear slot for the rear screw is cut wrong, the overall profile is wrong, there is no elevation marks, no elevator stop, and no Lyman Sight Co. Markings.
“CS” is hard to fathom, but could of been some type of inspector mark or some group, but not sure what or whom.
Could maybe tell you more, but need more pictures. I’m assuming it has a front sight still?
Sincerely,
Maverick
