I recently acquired a Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring rifle w/ 20″ bbl (dom 1916) in 44 WCF. It is marked US over TVA and a 3 digit number on the left buttstock. Letters are 3/4” and the number is 3/8”.
I have seen a Winchester Model 12 shotgun and an M1 Carbine that were stamped TVA Property, and confirmed as used by TVA. I have not seen anything regarding any Winchester rifles used by TVA. I am wondering if anyone has knowledge or documentation of any US or TVA use of Winchester 1892s.
I am well aware that this one could be a fake. Especially since the US and TVA were stamped using the same font/stamp set. And, as the rifle is a 1916, and TVA didn’t come into being until 1933, that doesn’t track either.
Good news is, for what I have in it, I don’t care if it IS a fake – still very happy to have it, and 44 WCF is one of my favorite calibers.
Thanx for any insight.
Steve,
In my research on the Model 1892’s I have seen another carbine marked on the left receiver side. It was manufactured during 1917. Please send me some images and the serial number and I will be happy to take a look at it. [email protected]
