Hello Wally,

A bit of advice here from some one who has been surveying Model 1892 rifles for 4 year s now and collected data on about 7000 of them.  Go back and search all of the big auction house on line catalogs.  Look at RIA, Julia’s, Amoskeag, Poulin, or any Google search result you can come up with.  Keep photo files of every rifle you can come across.  You will want to look back at them as time goes on to look for errors and new items you wish you cataloged from the start.  And expect to spend A LOT of time putting it all together.  I probably spend 3 hours a day working on my survey in one way or another.

Good luck

Michael

Hi Michael

Thanks for the info. I only estimate 50 of these were made. What do you want in your 1892 survey?

Thanks

Hi Bob

These were straight grip stocks. I think. Any pistol grips would be interesting.

Walter,

I think your estimate of 50 is a quite low. I did a quick check of the Gordon survey and found 14 engraved 20″ Rifles with deluxe checkered wood (DCW) that survived. Non with pistol grips. There was one with deluxe wood and one that said checkered stock that I didn’t include. Gordons survey was 3847 guns and extrapolating that to 720610 guns I come up with 2623 engraved 20″ rifles with DCW.

Hi Bob

By deluxe I mean fancy checkered wood. Maybe this survey will tell us how many survive.

It would be extremely difficult to survey the rifles that did not “survive”!!Smile  Maybe even impossible.

When you say “short rifles” you mentioned 20″ Are you including 22″ guns? I had a deluxe PG, Half Round years ago. I will find SN if you’re including them. Thanks,

Walter,

The Survey Gordon did was just summarized in the end of volume 2 of his books. The complete list of all the guns was supplied in a pamphlet that came with the first batch of books. I can post the list that I found.
