Oh my God! I just watched the video. That’s crazy money coming from a crazy person.
Especially when you consider the phone bidder was almost as “crazy” as the online bidder. Actually it was two bidders who wanted this rifle for reasons we may never know or understand.

Ian-
It’s this one from the December 2024 RIA Premier Auction:
All Pre64 Model 70 Super Grade Carbines (uncataloged Style) are suspect. While some were undoubtedly made to order, many others were put together from original parts, and still others (the worst) are fake carbines (non-factory barrel).
I’ve no idea which category this one falls into, but I thought the $8500 pre-auction high estimate was about right if it looked genuine to an interested party. What happened was obscene…

Can someone post the link to the Rock Island listings? By the time you add in shipping and sales tax, well over 100k.From the brief glance of the barrel markings in the video—they look weak and suggest that it’s been refinished.
Ian-
See if the link below works for you. I won’t be able to make it, only one other TGCA board member can make it and I have a misbehaving icemaker and another event to look in on early Saturday.

This may work better:
I can already see the next RIA ad campaign featuring on bragging about said rifle and its hammered price with the cheese.

Thank you. I think the “ROBERTS” on the barrel looks suspiciously weak.
Hey guys, we should be thrilled with this auction. Whether we believe it is worth it or is it a fake either way we should be happy with the price since the market has spoken and placed a value on the rifle.
I do want names of the bidders, I have a number of M70 carbines carbines (not SG) they may be interested in for $50K a piece
I cannot claim the homily because another Member quoted it but it’s too good not to repeat and store for inevitable future use:
