While looking at descriptions of some Model 1886’s I come across comments like,” second coat lacquer lines are still visible on the belly of the receiver”. What does that mean? What lacquer?

I believe it’s the coating 1886s have applied at the factory to protect the color case hardening.
The current James Julia auction 1886 offerings really have some nice CCH.

There will be some strong follow-ups to factory finishing and “coatings” !! 
There is a thread way back on this, and if I can find it, I’ll get it to you.
