I have a couple of questions about the trapdoor buttplate as they pertain to Model 94 rifles. First when did Winchester discontinue that type of buttplate? And if it was available would it be a common item on a Model 94 standard rifle, crescent style stock, in the 995k serial number range. I don’t have the entire serial number at this time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Nick
The trapdoor buttplate used on the 73’s was used to the end of production of 1933 but it wasn’t used on the 94 unless it would of been a special order.
Here is a previous topic about that. 94 with trapdoor

I think Nick was referring to My “94 ser#992031 with the trap door crescent butt plate. It is a standard 26” r.b. in .30 cal with a full mag. I am still looking for the cleaning rod for it Harry, some call Me Henry P.S. The trap door looks identical to a Mod.’73 trapdoor

I guess I read that a little to fast. I was kind of wondering where the Henry came from.
To answer the question, there are no records for that serial range and I highly doubt that there would of been a run of them with a trapdoor. They would be a special order item.

Bob,I see from the earlier post that Henry’s rifle is the same configuration as the one I’m asking about. Pretty close in serial numbers also. Any chance there could have been a run of 94’s with those buttplate in that range? Anyway thanks for the help
Nick
Nick,
The answer is No, Winchester did not make a run of Model 94 rifles with trap door butt plates. It was always a special order item, and for the Model 1894(94), it was one of the most rarely requested special order features. I have surveyed nearly 17,000 Model 1894/94s, and have thus far found less than a handful with a factory installed Trap door butt plate.
