Saw an interesting 1894 today. SN 89323, 26″ rifle, 1/2 round, short mag, 30WCF, butt stock has a 2″ crack on left side between the tangs. Small sliver missing near top tang on left side. Has a Marble folding rear sight that has been removed a time or two with a steel punch…but still serviceable. Not convinced it’s original but it’s not a recent addition. Wood has probably been gently refinished but still proud or flush with metal. I’d give the metal a strong 70% but could possibly go along with an 80% rating. Action feels tight. All screws in receiver slightly buggared. I wasn’t too interested in the rifle earlier today but it’s been eating on me. I wasn’t interested enough to check the bore but now I wish I had. I can buy the gun for less than $2K.
At the moment I’ll have to pass on anything that’s not a very good deal, I’m wondering if I need to take another look at this rifle.
