I mentioned elsewhere that I thought many Winchesters have sold on the low side at RIA this morning. Here’s an exception and I am not surprised. Such a popular and desirable configuration to own. I wonder how much Chuck Conners has to do with it? Anyway, this one had an auction estimate of $3500 to $5500. The hammer price was $7500. It’s nice, but not mint. It’s not an early one either. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if a member or two around here is older than this carbine 😉

Very nice M92 Carbine as 44 carbines go. Late yes, but highly collectible none the less. $7,500 is about the going rate for a nice M92 or M1892 44 carbine.
They seem to outdo the rifles. Much harder to find 44 carbines as Hollywood bought them all up for all their western movies. Even those that took place in the early 1800’s.
Nice 44’s , carbines, rifles, or the other hard to find, M53, are very much sought after, and to have any of these, are a collectors prize.
Many M92’s were made during the “flaking” time, and so many have been reduced in value. The takedown 44’s are especially hard to find.
They used to be my favorite rifle, until I got a nice M1886. Still, they are near the top of my favorites list. Big Larry

Got that right, Larry–if the scene was “out West,” the gun was probably a ’92.
Except for flintlock-era films using Trapdoor Springfields with the hammers crudely converted to hold a flint!

Yeah, they fooled us back in the day. Rifleman with his M92 or El Tigre back in the 1870’s. Never gave it a thought back in 1957. I would have drawn the line at Moses carrying a M92 up the mountain. Big Larry
BTW Clarence. How many 92’s do you have? Big Larry
