So I finally took possession of the rifle I posted about a couple weeks ago and the length of pull is 11 5/8”. My other 1895 is 12 5/8”. It looks totally factory and think it would be almost impossible to shorten one of these so I’m guessing it was a special order? If I were to get the factory letter I guess it would indicate that.

What’s the serial number?  A factory letter is not available for quite a few of these.  If one were available for that serial number, and I thought that short stock might be original, I would surely pursue the letter.

Feel free to post photos.

serial number 49867

also  what I thought was a Lyman 21 sight is different than others I have, it doesn’t say Lyman on it anywhere and doesn’t have the top set screw. Is it possible it’s an early version or is it a vintage knock off?

if it does letter with the shorter stock would that significantly increase the value?

I can’t remember where I got this. Not a 95 but an example of a factory cut special order.

helidriver72-

Have you pulled the butt plate off? I think that may help you feel better about it.

What should I look for if I pull it off?

I ordered a letter it falls in the range with warehouse details.

I think a factory short stock will be readily apparent as it was milled. I think an aftermarket job will be apparent but the fit looks very good in the pics. OTOH I have a nice 1895 the seller assured me had a replacement butt stock but I can’t see it. I think if I pulled it off the gun I may be able to tell. Please let us know what the ledger says.

Yes, please report back to us what the factory letter says.  I agree that the stock looks right.  The stock could be shortened to the original cut and contour but the buttplate would be too large.
