Saw it today. Serial 1126xxx (not my gun). Question: This is clearly a factory made saddle ring carbine with all pre-1928 features. How late was the last factory Saddle Ring carbine made? Is 1937 unusual? Thanks!

Winchester offered the saddle (sling) ring as a special order item through the pre-WW II production (up to August 1942).  The highest serial numbers I have confirmed with a special order sling ring are 1191729 (10/10/1938) a 25-35 WCF, and 1212223 (11/8/1939) a 38-55.  I have (8) of them documented in the year 1937.

Bert, Do the special order late 94’s with sling rings have the newer features of ramp front sight, 22 series rear sight, and modern Model 55 butt plate style?

The gun I am looking at has all older or early features of post front sight, ladder rear sight and original carbine style butt plate. The barrel address is of the previous styles about from about serial 700,000.

So it is just like the last SRC’s made in say 1928. I would assume Winchester used left over parts to make the gun. Thanks!

Many of them are just like the one you found, Nickel Steel barrel versus Proof Steel, old style sights, and old style butt.  What is the serial number on this SRC?

Morphy auction has this saddle ring carbine from 1941 (1940 according to the resources tab).  Is this one correct?

Thanks, Kevin

Kevin,

It certainly appears to be correct, and it is almost (but not quite) the highest serial number I have documented with a saddle ring.
