Though this is related to my most recent thread, thought a new one might be better. Does anyone have any photos/measurements they would be willing to share of original pre-1885 Winchester factory slings? I know they were rare to start with, and I’m sure originals are few and far between- but I sure would like to be able to reproduce them as close as I can for a personal project. Hardware, leather weight/finish, etc. I’ve got a couple catalog reprints on the way from Cornell- no idea if those will help. Many thanks!

Not if they’re earlier than the mid-1890s. Your best bet is photos posted here. The leather is easily duplicated, your problem will be the buckle.
That’s exactly what I’m afraid of- but first I need to know what buckle!

Luckily, it wouldn’t be the patented roller-buckle, which would be impossible to replicate. Probably some simple buckle such as harness-makers were using at the time, & are still available in leather-work & equestrian catalogs.
