Ok guys I have a couple of opinions thus far on this rifle, but just wanted to see what the general consensus was value wise. What would be a good offer to pay for it…..Winchester 1892 in 25-20. Bore is an 8 out of 10. There is no pitting on the receiver, just looks discolored. All the wood is proud of the metal, but I am sure someone at one point has cleaned up the wood. The rest you can see for yourself. If ya click on the pic it will get bigger. I am for sure interested in it, but just on the fence.
Thanks
Steve
In my humble opinion a little high.In my not so humble opinion I think it’s ugly[blotchy reciever, blotchy barrel][maybe cold-blue added, don’t know].Not trying to be rude, but don’t think you would be happy with it for long. Sorry, but I would wait a little bit for something more pleasing to look at and hold while hunting. Doug
So lets put this in one other perspective. Was giving some thought on replica rifles. Uberti, and the new Winchesters made by who ever. I am still thinking an original Winchester 1892 that has been cleaned to some extent should be of more desire than a replica. Now that being said what would your chances be of finding what most would classify a good collector grade rifle for $1100. I truly do not mind the wait for something to pop up that is unmolested, but at what cost will that rifle come? Does anyone here have any pics of what they would consider a good collector grade for a reasonable price. I do realize that if you wait long enough you can find someone who has one and they don’t know what they have and you can get it at a bargain, but those instances are far few and between in this day and age of computers.

Ok Steve…here is an auction for a 1892 in 32-20. I don’t know if that is what you want, but this might be a good one to study for condition. The wood to metal looks very good, the screws look good, both pieces of wood look pretty good, and I thinkthe gun has a lot more color than the photos show. They have to much light on the subject, making it look washed out. It is not a lot more than the other one and a lot nicer in my opinion. Peter

Also Steve, I just sold a ’94, TD, 30-30 for a little over $1200.00 that was way nicer than the one you’re looking at. Would have been a good one for you.
I’m not sure what you are telling us with those pictures SLK. In my opinion, that gun is a mess, especially for $1100.00. If you can’t see the difference between the rifle you are looking at and the two examples I posted, then I guess I don’t know what to say. Sorry, Peter

I was not trying to tell anyone anything. Someone else asked me to post more pics of the rifle so I did.

Steve, what caliber do you prefer ? That does affect price. 44-40 is the most desirable, but other rounds are fun to shoot.Bill
Bill I was interested in the 25-20, as I enjoy reloading and shooting. I thought it would be a fun cartridge to load and shoot. I am not looking for a safe queen rifle. I do enjoy shooting them as well. I would like to get one in 44-40 also but have found that they do in fact demand more money.

First gun: marginal shooter at best. I’m a 32WCF fan so I feel your pain. Second gun a bit better. If you’re a shooter (like me) either may work with a good bore and action. As a collector; pass on the first. Seems there are still many 25WCF rifles out there. 2nd gun; how much can you get it for?
The second rifle is one I already own. I picked it up a couple of years ago. I was able to get it for $800. Just as it is pictured is how it is now. It is a pleasure to shoot and fun. I just got an itch to get one in 25-20 and have just started looking. Not knowing exactly what to look for it is confusing to me. That is why I ask so many questions. I sure hope no one thinks I am being obstinate. I just do not know what to look for as far as a collector piece. I have a safe full of all kinds of shooters. Some of which may be collector grade and some probably not.
Thank Much
Steve
