No… I sincerely doubt that is the case. 

That stated, the rifle in question is just another example of an aftermarket “customized” Winchester.  While Townsend Whelen was/is a relatively well known firearms expert & enthusiast, there is minimal historical significance associated with him and that rifle.  If the alterations to it had been made by Winchester, it would be viewed in a more favorable light.

Chuck, I enjoy LOOKING at rifles like this as it was used and meant to be used.  Contemporary modifications are interesting to see.  But I wouldn’t care to have it unless obtained at a bargain as original, Winchester, finish is non existent.  Just my take for my own consumption.  Tim

I like the Whelan connection.  Also, any pistol grip M1895 interests me.  More of course, if it is original Winchester.
