I’ve never seen a hammer on an 1894 (or any other model) look like this. What would be the reason for such a modification? Surely not Winchester factory work, right?

Looks like there is a dent on the right side of the hammer in the upper tang. Could be causing the problem. Almost looks like a punch mark. Ive been trying to figure out what that circle imprint is in the blue on the left side of the receiver?? Cant zoom in enough to really see.

Might have something to do with the rifle having double set triggers. But seems odd indeed.
Without disassembly it would be hard to make heads or tails of whats going on, but I wonder if it has been messed with.

The hammer is re-case colored among other issues. Those are not original Winchester colors or pattern.
I don’t see any case coloring at all. Case coloring doesn’t have a pattern to it, as it is always random. If there is any color at all, it is merely from the heat of the friction of having turned the hammer down.
What I do see is where someone turned the hammer down a few thousandths. You can clearly see the circular motion cut into the metal, and if you look at that groove you can see where it was done unevenly, and done more than once.
I have no idea why anyone would need to do such a thing.
Sincerely,
Maverick
