Hi,

chasing details on serial numbers starting with “V” have come across one and cannot find a definitive answer anywhere, hoping this forum can help.

Barrell stamping indicates made in new haven, but can’t find any listing of the V prefix anywhere.

just wanting some context before I purchase.

Thanks in advance

There were no factory original Winchester Model 94s manufactured with a “V” prefix serial number.

Bert

Thanks Bert, any ideas on what or would be ?

No, I do not.  Can you send me a clear picture of the gun and the serial number marking on the gun in question?

Bert, I have a 94 with S/N: 3747595 and the Winchester site keeps saying date not found. IDK. Based on some similarity to S/N’s on here am I cloe guessing it was manufactured in or about 1970?rnShawn

November 1907.

Which caliber is it?  Is it a Carbine or a Rifle? What is the Patent date that is marked on the barrel?

Bert

30-30 WIN. 20″ barrel. I do not see any patent info on barrel anywhere. And I can’t figure out how to add a couple photos in here. Confused

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like that higher S/N would not be from 1907. And it doesn’t look that old. And it is stamped 30-30 which I thought was a designated caliber much later than 1907. I’m just a confused guy with a fun model 94! LaughSmileSurprised

You are correct… I read it wrong and thought it was a 6-digit serial number.   Serial number “3747595” was manufactured in the year 1972.

This Sears “Ted Williams” Model 100 based on the 94 has a “V” serial number….

The serial number tells us that it was manufactured in late January 1936.  Based on the production date, it is most likely a Transitional Carbine. Can you provide pictures of it?

Thanks Bert!

Your Model 94 Carbine was manufactured in the year 1960.  I cannot provide additional information without the benefit of seeing some pictures of it.

No the only safety it has is the grip safety.

That indicates that it was manufactured in the year 1991.  The cross-bolt safety was introduced in 1992.

A number of years ago I bought a Panasonic TV from Sears and Roebuck. 35″ if I remember. Panasonic site did not include 35″ screens. Also the Sears warranty was longer than Panasonics. These were obviously made for Sears. As such, proprietary? Would they have done that for other guns? Don

The Winchester 94s made for Sears, either under the J.C. Higgins or the later Ted Williams model name, had some unique design features. They definitely weren’t one-for-one clones of the standard 94. Their parts are definitely more cheap looking and feeling in my opinion.

…is that what you mean, Don?
