I found this beautiful deluxe model 64 , unfortunately it has been drilled and tapped for a scope or Lyman peep sight maybe ?Anyone think it is worth what they’re asking which is $ 1,150 ???
No.
Also, it’s hard to tell from the one photograph, but I think it’s been reblued as well.

That’s what I thought , they only have two pictures , I’d have to drive an hour to look at it and I don’t think it’s worth my time , thanks .

It is a Deer Rifle, and it does appear to have been refinished as well as having the extra holes drilled & tapped for a side mount scope base. It certainly is not a collector grade rifle.Bert
It doesn’t look like it has the two smaller holes for the different style peep site , is that normal ?

The early production Model 64 rifles were not drilled & tapped for a receiver mounted peep sight unless special ordered with said sight. In July 1934, Winchester began drilling & tapping the receiver frames as standard practice. The exception to that practice was the early production 219 Zipper rifles that were equipped with the No. 98A bolt peep sight.
What is the serial number on the Deer Rifle in question?

That makes sense then because I believe it dates at 1933 , the serial number is 1092215 .

Chris,
Yes it does make sense. Which caliber is that Deer Rifle chambered for?
Bert
It’s chambered in 30-30 . I’m tempted to buy it and put a type 21 sight on it , I don’t think I will if it’s been refinished though ???
Chris
Do I recall correctly a post on here recently where someone was saying that the proof Mark was sometimes applied before the gun was blued ?
